Many homes in the UK have a footstool in them, and not just in the lounge/drawing room or whatever name you use for it. A lot of people think that because it is called a footstool it is only for putting your feet up on for comfort when watching the telly, and it is true that is the primary purpose of a footstool, but they can have many other uses as well.

For instance, many of our customers at Footstools & More will order two, three, or even more footstools. Sometimes they prefer to have individual stools in the lounge – one each – so they will order two of the smaller ones. Then again, some couples like to have one long footstool that they can both use at the same time.

But they have other uses too. A lot of our women customers order a footstool for use in the bedroom. If you have a taller footstool it makes an ideal seat for sitting on in front of the dressing table while you look in the mirror to put on your makeup. It is nice and comfortable and doesn’t take up a lot of space. Furthermore, if you order an ottoman – that’s one with a lid – you can use it for storage of all sorts of bits and pieces.

In fact, we would go so far as to say that when you order a footstool, whatever you are going to use it for, you might just as well have one in which you can store things. After all, it doesn’t take up any more space and since you are using that space anyway, you might as well make the best use of it.

This is why many customers will order one of our footstools for use as a hallway bench. If you are going to do that, you don’t want a footstool that is wide – unless you have a lot of space in your hall: but most people don’t. So the idea is to have a long and narrow footstool there, and of course, it is the perfect place to store shoes, wellies, and so on. When you are going out you just take out the shoes that you need, then sit on the benchtop in order to put them on.

Of course, when you come back indoors again, you can do the same thing in reverse. This is perfect when you come with wet shoes because it is pouring with rain, or when your feet are covered in snow. You take them off right there in the hall instead of tramping through the house in them.

Our storage footstools can be made in a huge choice of different materials, but when using them in the hallway many customers choose to have them covered in leather. This means that when you come in with a soaking wet raincoat it is not going to make the fabric damp when you sit on it. With leather, you can just wipe any water off it.
